Dog Birthday Statistics 2026: 30+ Data Points on How Americans Celebrate Their Pets

Why Celebrating Your Dog's Birthday Matters

Why Celebrating Your Dog's Birthday Matters

My first dog birthday party was in our apartment with just the three of us; me, Alejandra, Maya, and a steak shaped like a cake that I'm pretty sure Maya could smell from the moment we walked in the door.

I didn't really get it yet. Alejandra had been talking about this for weeks, picking out decorations, planning what she wanted to make, and I remember thinking it was really sweet that she cared this much but I wasn't sure why we were going all out for a dog who didn't know what a birthday was. Maya was reactive at the time so it's not like we had a guest list, it was literally just us in our living room with some decorations and a dog who was laser focused on that steak cake.

But then something shifted. We started playing with Maya, taking pictures, singing happy birthday, giving her all the attention in the world, and at some point I looked over and Alejandra was on the floor with her just laughing and Maya was so locked in on us and I remember thinking... this is actually really fun. Like genuinely, unexpectedly fun. Not in an "I'm doing this for the dog" way but in an "I'm having the best time right now and I don't fully understand why" way.

That was the moment I got it. It was never just about our dog, it was about us becoming the kind of dog parents who do stuff like this and loving every second of it.

Looking back, this celebration for Maya was the beginning of PartyAnimal.

Your Dog Gets the Party. You Get the Memory.

Here's what nobody tells you about throwing your dog a birthday party. Your dog gets the treats, the hat, the attention, they're having the absolute time of their life and they have no idea why today is different but they can feel that it is.

But something happens to you too, and it kind of catches you off guard.

You're already the person who talks to your dog in a baby voice, who shows strangers photos of your dog completely unprompted, who has more pictures of your dog on your phone than of actual people in your life. Throwing them a birthday party is just the natural next step, and once you do it you'll wonder why you waited so long because it turns out this was the missing piece the whole time.

Because when you see the photos after, your dog in their birthday hat with their name on it, surrounded by balloons, looking at you like you're the greatest person on the planet, that's not just a dog photo. It becomes your most cherished memory, the one you share with everyone, the one that makes people smile every single time you show it to them, the one you'll still be looking at years from now wondering how they were ever that young and how that day went by so fast.

How to Celebrate Your Dog's Birthday (Even If It's Just the Two of You)

You don't need a huge party. You don't need 20 dog friends and a photographer. Here's what actually makes it special.

Make it intentional. Whatever your dog loves most, do more of it. Special meal. New walk route. Extra couch time. The point is you stopped your regular day and said: today is different. That's what makes it feel like something.

Take pictures. Our dogs are only with us for a short time. The photos from Maya's first birthday are some of my favorite photos we have, because they capture something we can't get back. Future you will be so grateful you did this.

Go overboard on the decorations. This sounds small but it changes everything. A banner with their face on it. A hat with their name. Balloons everywhere. It turns a random Tuesday into something you'll actually remember. And honestly? Setting it all up is half the fun.

The Birth of PartyAnimal

After Maya showed us how fun this could be, we rescued Lenni. Found on the streets of Tlaltenango, Zacatecas (where Alejandra is from), tiny, malnourished, full of worms. She walked up to Alejandra and chose her.

She also very quickly chose Maya.

We didn't know if Lenni would get healthy so when her first birthday came around we wanted to go big, not just for her but for us, because we wanted to be the kind of people who celebrate a dog making it through her first year after everything she went through. That birthday hit different than any party we'd thrown before because it wasn't just fun anymore, it meant something. It meant she made it.

But there was nothing out there that matched what we wanted. Everything was generic plastic from a pet store or random stuff cobbled together from five different orders that somehow still didn't look right when you put it all together. Nothing felt personal, nothing felt like it was made for our dog, nothing felt like anyone involved in making it actually cared about what this moment meant to the people buying it.

This stayed with us, so we started building it. She taught herself to sew, to embroider, to diecut, and she poured herself into it because she wanted Lenni's birthday to feel as special as Lenni was to us. By Lenni's second birthday we had the first prototype of what would become the PartyPack.

When friends and family saw it they all asked the same thing: how do I get one for my dog? That's when we knew we were onto something. So we did everything we could to perfect our idea and it took months and months to figure out how to source and craft everything, but we couldn't stop thinking about how it felt to finally celebrate our dog the way we always wanted to. So we kept going until we got there and began showing up to every pop-up in LA we could find. Every single weekend, just to see if strangers felt the same way. And they did.

Now we've shipped thousands of PartyPacks. Every single one is handmade, every banner has your dog's face on it, every hat has their name embroidered on it. Every box we make is made for one specific dog and the human who loves them.

It's Not Just a Party. It's a Memory That Outlasts Everything.

At one point a single PartyPack took us an entire weekend to make. Now we can ship hundreds per month but the care hasn't changed, we still personalize, cut, sew, and embroider every order because we remember what it felt like to want something like this and not be able to find it anywhere.

We do this because we know dogs simply don't get enough birthdays. So every one we get to have with them is a chance for you to stop everything, celebrate, and create a memory that lives way beyond their short time with us.

We just make it easy to celebrate every birthday. No planning, no hunting for supplies, and no stress. Simply a box that shows up at your door with everything you need to give your dog the day they deserve.

Our commitment to helping dogs with every celebration.

When you celebrate your dog's special day, you're also helping other dogs find their forever home.

Adopting Maya has been one of the best things that has ever happened to Alejandra and I am forever grateful she did. So from our inception we knew we wanted to do everything we could to help dogs like Maya find their human.

Although we didn't rescue Lenni from a rescue, we felt confident bringing her back to LA from Mexico because we knew that if she didn't work out with our family, we had somewhere safe she could go to find hers. But of course, she fit right in.

Since starting PartyAnimal we've also adopted Gigi, a now 14 year old gal who was given a second chance because a rescue stepped up, and now we have them to thank for having her in our life.

Our 3 dogs are our everything and we want to do everything we can to advocate for all dog's safety and wellbeing.

Today, 10% of every PartyPack goes directly to dog rescue organizations.  Also, we work closely with local rescues to do what we can to help. We've thrown birthday parties for dogs who need extra attention to truly be seen, and every celebration we've done has led to an adoption. Every party you throw helps make someone else's first party possible.

Celebrate your dog. Feel amazing doing it. And help another dog along the way.

FAQs

Is it worth throwing a birthday party for my dog?
100%. The only thing our customers ever regret is not doing it sooner. It's one of those experiences that just hits different once you do it.

What if I don't know my dog's exact birthday?
Pick a day. Rescue dogs often don't have a known birthday, so many dog parents celebrate their gotcha day instead (the day they were adopted). Your dog doesn't care about the date. They care about the steak cake.

What's in a PartyPack?
A personalized banner with your dog's face, a handmade birthday hat with their name and age, an embroidered bandana, personalized treat toppers, human party hats, a balloon arch, a giant foil number balloon, personalized stickers, tattoos, and more. Everything is personalized & sized for your specific dog.

How far in advance should I order?
We recommend 2 to 4 weeks before your celebration date since everything is handmade to order. Need it sooner? Rush production is available at checkout.

Does Party Animal support dog rescues?
Yes. 10% of every PartyPack goes directly to dog rescue organizations including Wags & Walks and Real Good Rescue. When you celebrate your dog, you help dogs still waiting for their forever home.
